Unit 5, Lesson 3 of 5
Brainlag Music

The 7-6 suspension

Music theory, Suspensions, 10 minutes

A 7th above the bass falling to a 6th, often over a first-inversion chord.

Onto a 6th

In a 7-6 suspension the held note is a 7th above the bass, and falls to the 6th: so the chord it resolves into has a 6th above its bass, often a first inversion.

A, held from VI into IIb over the B flat bass (a 7th), falls to G (a 6th): 7-6
