Unit 5, Lesson 2 of 5
Brainlag Music

The 4-3 suspension

Music theory, Suspensions, 10 minutes

The most common suspension, over V at a cadence.

Over V

The 4-3 suspension most often sits over V at a cadence: the tonic, held over from the chord before, is a 4th above the dominant bass; it falls to the leading note, the 3rd.

C, held from IV into V over the G bass (a 4th), falls to B (a 3rd): 4-3
