Unit 7, Lesson 5 of 6
Brainlag Music

The soprano first

Music theory, Figured bass, 12 minutes

Writing the soprano of a realisation as a melody, before the inner parts.

A melody over the bass

Write the soprano first, as a melody: mostly by step, with a shape and a high point, and the right note at each cadence (the tonic over a perfect cadence, often the supertonic or leading note over an imperfect one). Move it against the bass, in contrary motion where you can.

The rest of this lesson and its 4 practice questions are in Brainlag Music Theory.
