Unit 2, Lesson 5 of 6
Brainlag Music

Approaching an augmented sixth

Music theory, Augmented sixths, 12 minutes

How the music arrives at an augmented sixth: from IVb, one part sliding a semitone.

From IVb

The usual way in is from IVb: its bass (the submediant) slides down a semitone to the flattened submediant, or, in a minor key, stays where it is; and the subdominant rises a semitone to its sharpened form, in the same part.

The rest of this lesson and its 5 practice questions are in Brainlag Music Theory.
